My research interests the preparation of specialized reading professionals (reading specialists/literacy coaches), professional development for literacy educators, early literacy, teacher leadership and National Board Teaching Certification (NBTC).
In addition to my focused areas of research, I serve as Program Coordinator for the Literacy Education Master of Arts program. My teaching assignments in the program include: Foundations of Literacy (624), Literacy and the Young Child (623), Literacy Coaching (693) and Literacy Leadership (726).
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction/Literacy Studies, College of Education & Human Services (CEHS), at West Virginia University (WVU). I earned my doctorate in Instruction and Learning/Reading from the University of Pittsburgh and my M.Ed. in Reading Education from Bloomsburg University. My professional teaching certificates include Elementary Education (K-8), and Reading Specialist Certification (K-12). I began my teaching career as middle school Reading and intermediate Title 1 Math Specialist in the Pleasant Valley School District, Brodheadsville, PA
